A quick note before you start cooking your Thanksgiving feast!
Please, please, please, when you’re cooking for the crowd avoid these (now and forever) . . .
SEED OILS
This includes Canola, Corn, Cottonseed, Soy, Sunflower, Safflower, Grapeseed, Rice bran.
Refined Palm oil, and anything that says hydrogenated (Crisco).
What’s Wrong with Seed Oils???
“. . . aldehydes (from seed oils) cause extreme oxidative stress to every possible kind of (human) tissue, with a ‘great diversity of deleterious effects’ to health, all of which were ‘rather likely’ to occur at levels normally consumed by humans.” Weston Price Foundation
If you’ve been watching the news lately you may have an inkling of how our food companies have been loading virtually all of their foods with sugar and seed oils.
When consumed, seed oils (think McDonald’s french fries or virtually most foods you get in a restaurant) play havoc inside of you. 😬
Seed oils are highly processed, contain virtually none of the “seed” oil they’re named for, and have many ill effects on your body.
You might think of them as poison as they cause a “gunk” to accumulate inside of you, leading to unwanted conditions like liver damage, heart lesions, and the yucky toxic plaque that can cause atherosclerosis.
They disturb basic cell functioning and DNA repair are linked to rapid cell death.
They’re even implicated in the development of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and they’re another of the causes of accelerated aging – they’ll make you older and sicker faster.
Trade Them Out
Bottom line . . . toss them if they’re in your pantry and use these instead:
Avocado oil, Butter, Ghee, Coconut Oil, Duck Fat, Lard, Olive oil, Peanut oil, Tallow, Sesame oil, Flax oil, Walnut oil, Almond oil, Macadamia nut oil
Also, notes Dr. Cate, Anything that says cold-pressed and unrefined is okay, but it must say unrefined! “If it says cold-pressed but is refined, it’s not good.”
Always Read Labels!
Food companies are catching on and doing sneaky things like changing the labeling to have you think what’s inside is good for you!
Hellmann’s recently came out with a new brand of mayo labeled: “Olive Oil Mayonnaise Dressing”. Sounds great – right? Check out the label and you’ll find – in addition to the Olive oil – canola and soybean oils. It went back on the shelf!
Always read labels so you know what you’re getting!
Wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving!
